  • Why Heterosexuals Should Care About Brokeback Mountain

Brokeback Mountain, for those who have been living under a rock, is the award winning novel and motion picture that is the subject of rave reviews and Oscar buzz. It is, ostensibly, a ground breaking story of two male ranch hands lustily falling in love. On the surface it would seem that such a theme would fail to appeal to heterosexuals who couldn’t possibly identify with such non-normative sexual behavior. But hold your horses, bucko. There may be more that thickens this boiling pot than meets the eye.
  • Music Video - My Love Is Alive

    Video: (modem) (dsl/cable)samesexciviltshirt.jpg

The re-election of GW Bush did some pretty big damage to my faith in America. Besides the obvious insanity of the Iraq war, it became clear that prejudice in America was still strong, with Bush favoring a constitutional amendment to permanently ban gay marriage and 11 states passing anti-gay legislation.
I was listening to this song one day and felt it was the perfect statement to make to all those who seem to think that as gay people we're not just immoral, but that we don't feel the same things as everyone else. Shouting out "My Love Is Alive" seemed a fitting way to get the message across that our relationships are not about sex, as many proclaim, but about love. At the time I was also working as a DJ at The North Tower Circle and I had turned Wednesday nights into a video lounge, where I would play blocks of music and then a short block of videos. Since I was doing everything I could to come up videos to play at the club, I started creating some of my own, which was what led to this video.
Regardless of what those who condemn us say, our love is here, alive, just as valid, and we will not stop until we are granted the same legal rights as heterosexuals.

    UPDATE...DON'T MISS THIS CLIP...
DAVID LETTERMAN SKEWERS BILL O'REILLY ON "LATE NIGHT" LAST NIGHT (JAN 4TH 2006)
    http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/1gmarchive/002750.html#002750

Bill O’Reilly is something to behold. If you haven’t watched an entire show of his, I recommend it. I’ve been watching him on and off for the last few years, and with all the anger and frustration he brings out in me, at least his particular brand of insanity always manages to make me laugh.

Recently he debated Ellis Henican, a Newsday Columnist and, surprise, a FOX News Contributor. Henican barely tried to oppose anything O’Reilly said, except for things they weren’t even talking about. What they were talking about was Ann Coulter’s recent speaking appearance at the University of Connecticut where she was greeted loudly by a large group of protestors in the audience shouting “You suck!”. O’Reilly was infuriated by these protestors. After all, Coulter was showing up somewhere she was invited to, she’d been asked to come. O’Reilly, angry and agitated by this treatment of Coulter, portrayed her as innocent and vulnerable, undeserving of this kind of “shout down”, as he called it. If you’ve watched and listened to Ann Coulter even once, you know that at the very least, “innocent” and “vulnerable” do not apply.
  • Nathan - what really happened

A Reminder of What We Are Up Against – Our Tragic Loss

When Becki, our Tulare County Chapter leader called me on Friday night, I couldn’t believe the news…Nathan Christoffersen, the 28 year old, sunny, bright volunteer who ran our Madera County Chapter had been found by his father that morning, dead on their front porch.  According to a handout from his father entitled “WHAT HAPPENED,” Nathan was found “down on his knees with his head on his knees and his butt on his heels, facing away from the house.”

  • Nathan Christoffersen, a friend remembered

    Nathan Christoffersen
    Dec. 1st, 1977 - Dec. 16th, 2005

For those of you who have not heard the unfortunate news, our friend Nathan Christoffersen has passed away. His sudden death has left many of us in shock and deepley saddened.
He was a voice for the Gay and Lesbian community for the central valley and worked with Gayfresno.com and was an advocate for marriage equality. He recently became involved in planned parenthood and was working to help open their new Madera office.  For many of us he was a dear friend, confidant, and most of all FAMILY!

Memorial services for Nathan will be on; Wednesday, December 21, 2005 please arrive by 10:30am

    The University Vineyard Church

  • Brokeback Mountain, NOT for us?

Too bad I live in a culturally challenged area (Fresno in Central California).  Regal Theaters has bought up all five theaters in town. They have a total monopoly. They are a huge chain and give no indication they will show it anywhere at any time. Why? Regal's (Regal Entertainment Group) principal owner is Phillip Anshutz. His corporation is the largest motion picture exhibitor in the world (it operates nearly 20 percent of all indoor screens in the US) -- and is a growing force in Hollywood. Anshutz is also a leading religious right culture warrior.
