Mayoral candidate Henry T. Perea speaks on diversity, division and uniting a community:

Image    Perea is young, clean-cut, and Catholic but has a penchant for mild cursing (I've omitted the expletives from the article...sorry). He's a bit of a walking paradox, no question about it.

  • Republican Scandal Playing Cards

ImageA couple of enterprising men from Austin, Texas, have created a deck of playing cards featuring hypocritical Republicans “caught in the act”. Cards feature Larry Craig, Ted Haggard, Mark Foley and others. Each one was caught up in a gay scandal and each has made anti gay statements or voted against pro-gay legislation. “These professional grade, poker size playing cards take a peek into the dark corners of the Grand Ole Party. Featuring a plethora of politicians who got caught playing pitcher for the wrong team, allegedly.” Check out their website and buy a set of cards here: Gay Republican Cards

  • Olympics: Out Diver Mitcham Takes The Gold

ImageIn a shocking upset, openly gay Australian diver Matthew Mitcham, 20, has won the Olympic gold medal in the men’s 10m platform at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Going into the final round, Mitcham trailed China’s Zhou Luxin by more than 30 points. But Mitcham scored an astonishing 112.10 on his last dive — a back two and a half somersault with two and a half twists — to earn four perfect 10s and win the gold medal, with an overall score of 537.95 to Zhou’s 533.15. • LGBTQ Movie Night

What is  better than a Gay Fresno Movie Night? ........ A *FREE* Gay Fresno Movie Night!!!! Our first ever Gay Fresno Movie Night was HOT HOT HOT and more HOT. We showed the very vibrant film "But I'm A Cheerleader!" It was all laughs and pom poms all night. If some of you have not seen this movie, Gay Fresno recommends you see it ASAP. It is a completely hilarious film about how to "cure" homosexuality. It is about a serious situation, but is very humorous and light hearted. Which is a great change from what we normally see about the so called "curing" of homosexuality.

  • Hallmark Introduces Gay Marriage Cards

ImageImageImageMost states don't recognize gay marriage — but now Hallmark does. The nation's largest greeting card company is rolling out same-sex wedding cards — featuring two tuxedos, overlapping hearts or intertwined flowers, with best wishes inside. "Two hearts. One promise," one says. Hallmark added the cards after California joined Massachusetts as the only U.S. states with legal gay marriage. A handful of other states have recognized same-sex civil unions. Read the story HERE

  • CA Supreme Court Get's It Right Again

ImageAfter a recent re-design by 365GAY.COM, our live news feed is officially active again, at the top of our homepage. We can't help but point out one of the lead stories, about the CA Supreme Court ruling that doctors are not allowed to base their medical assistance to patients on the basis of their religious beliefs. For months now we've watched doctors and pharmacists refusing to assist those in need whose "morality" intersected their personal opinions. Does a person's religious belief system allow them to choose which job functions they will perform and which they won't? Of course not. But it was happening, with the support of millions of Ameircans. Monday, in a unanimous decision, the California Supreme Court ruled that doctors cannot withhold care to gays and lesbians based on their religious beliefs. The story involves a lesbian couple's choice of in vitro fertilization. Read the story HERE...

  • Birth Control Is NOT Abortion

ImageCan you imagine living in a place where birth control is considered an "abortion" and health insurers won't cover it? Where even rape victims are denied emergency contraception?

It seems unbelievable, but the Bush Administration is quietly trying to redefine "abortion" to include birth control. The Houston Chronicle says this could wipe out dozens of state laws that protect women's reproductive freedom and protect rape victims. This "rule change" doesn't need congressional approval.

Can you sign an emergency message to Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt, whose department is considering this rule change right now? We'll pass your signature and information to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, which will deliver the signatures to Leavitt. They'll be able to follow up with you on this issue. ImageSoldier’s Girl They Didn't Know How Dangerous Love Could Be

Based On A True Story Director: Frank Pierson / Starring: Troy Garity / Lee Pace / Andre Braugher / Shawn Hatosy / Rated: R / Review by: Leon Velasco / Rating: THUMBS UP

I wouldn’t get tired of watching this movie. It was so well written and played out. The viewer needs to open up their mind and disregard the obvious and place their own players into each character. For me it’s easy to see myself as the nightclub performer, (as cross dresser, not transgender). Or I can just place myself in her shoes as a victim of lost love, (if you remember the shooting back at the old location of, The Express, that left one young man dead in the alley across the way thanksgiving eve). I forever think of Mitch each year, and I fall victim to depression and lonesomeness and it borders gratefulness that I wasn’t there like we had planned; all due to me not finding someone to watch over my daughter that night for me to be with Mitch. (Yes, I am a single gay father; my daughter is now 18). They never did find Mitch’s killers; like I knew Fresno Police Department never does in “Gay” cases. This is how relate to this story; and the ending always brings me out of my slump because I envision myself being just as strong willed as the character to keep going.

  • For bad or for worse: mayoral candidates refuse to honestly speak on gay issues

I'm not a junkie for scandal, but the press today selectively reports on issues and pulls punches in ways that would make Edward R. Murrow turn over in his grave. Political candidates and officials have gotten far too comfortable with evasive answers, "no comment" or denying interviews to anyone who may not support their platform. It's a way of being dishonest without overtly lying to the public. Recently, I experienced this trend first hand while trying to secure an interview with both mayoral candidates regarding Proposition 8 and other LGBT concerns.

  • Judge Upholds Ballot Summary For Prop 8

When the state's voters decide Proposition 8 this fall, it appears they will check "yes" or "no" next to a ballot title that reads: "Eliminates the Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry."

A Superior Court judge this morning rejected a suit filed by Prop. 8 proponents against the ballot title proposed by Attorney General Jerry Brown. Judge Timothy M. Frawley said Brown's language was neither false nor misleading, handing a victory to gay rights supporters who want a clear statement of what a constitutional ban would mean for gay couples who have married in California this year. ImageThe California state senate on Tuesday approved legislation that would declare May 22 “Harvey Milk Day,” in honor of the openly gay San Francisco city supervisor who was assassinated nearly 30 years ago. • Congressional Hearings On "Don't Ask Don't Tell"

ImageRecently Congress held hearings on whether the military policy of "Don't Ask Don't Tell" (which allows gays and lesbians to serve in the military as long as they don't disclose their sexuality) should be struck down in order to allow gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military. It's astounding to witness the tired, ignorant and cliche arguments that are put forth by those endorsing keeping this policy in place, just as it is astounding to watch members of congress challenge this simple minded, prejudiced rhetoric.
