Fresno Reel Pride has been selected as a recipient for a Fresno Arts Council's 2008 Horizon Award. The 23rd Annual Horizon Awards winners have been officially announced and this year's recipients include Fresno Reel Pride. Since its inception in a lecture hall at Fresno State in 1990, Fresno Reel Pride has become the sixth oldest— and has grown to become one of the largest— gay and lesbian film festivals in the United States.
Jon Carroll, Chairman and Festival Director, is slated to accept the award on behalf of Fresno Reel Pride. He will be introduced by Robin McGehee, community volunteer and activist, at a public ceremony and reception held in Fresno City Hall's Council Chambers on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 6:00 pm. The Horizon Awards were established by the Fresno Arts Council in 1984 and to date, 149 outstanding citizens and organizations have been recognized for contributions to Fresno’s cultural community.
Fresno Reel Pride is a celebration of gay and lesbian cinema. Today, its festivals and special screenings are premiere cultural events in the San Joaquin Valley. This fall, Fresno Reel Pride will present its 19th annual film festival September 17-21, 2008 at the historic Tower Theatre.
Tickets are required to attend the Horizon Award's ceremony and reception. Details: (559) 237-9734 and online at http://www.fresnoartscouncil.org
What a difference twenty years can make. From a small group of pioneers who started the GLBST film festival, to the grand production of today. Great leadership and hard work have put Fresno on the map, of thisart genre, and is a tribute well deserved by all involved in this endever. The fact that so many artists rave about their experience in Fresno, yes, Fresno, is a grand accolodate to all Reed Pride organizers. Continued success!

Congrats Reel Pride and its founders!
Congratulations to the current directors, funders, volunteers and everyone involved with the current Fresno Reel Pride on this auspicious honor. Also congratulations to the early founders who must feel a great sense of pride at seeing this honor bestowed on what started as a small amount of films screened at Fresno State over a few nights. Ken Fries and Peter Robertson....you must be so happy to see what's become of your early work!
