The 23rd Annual Central Valley & Fresno's GLBT Pride Parade and Festival will take place on SATURDAY, June 1st 2013 in the historic Tower District between 10am and 3pm.
The Banners have been hung with pride from the street lights, the bill board proudly proclaims pride is on its way. The cute little median signs clearly state the date. Poster and flyers and ads announce that Saturday, June 1st will shout that proud has arrived.
It just Days before pride is here and folks across the valley are readying their floats and marching units.
Polishing the wares and organizing their booths. Pride is truly going to be amazing this year.

Carly Rae Jepsen, Train pull out of Boy Scout event over gay ban

Carly Rae Jepsen and Train fans who also happen to be Boy Scouts: Don't count on seeing them perform at the upcoming Jamboree in July.
Both artists have pulled out of the 2013 National Scout Jamboree, an annual conclave that attracts over 50,000 participants, over the Scouts' position on including gay, lesbian and transgender members and leaders. Train and Jepsen had originally been slated as headliners for the West Virginia event.
"As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer," Jepsen tweeted Tuesday morning.
Train members wrote on their blog last Friday, "When we booked this show for the Boy Scouts of America we were not aware of any policy barring openly gay people from participation within the organization. Train strongly opposes any kind of policy that questions the equality of any American citizen. We have always seen the BSA as a great and noble organization. We look forward to participating in the Jamboree this summer, as long as they make the right decision before then."

Immigration enforcement doesn’t care if X-Man Northstar save American lives for a living; he’s a Canadian citizen and his recent marriage to American Kyle Jinadu does nothing to change that fact. That’s thanks to DOMA, which prohibits the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages.

I love my first review: “Who does not enjoy a sexy vampire book? I cannot get enough! And Lorie Frye nails it with this one!”
However, Changes is about more than vampires. The story includes a professional drag queen ranch hand and a subject very dear to me; the rescue of American wild horses. The main character is a middle aged lesbian struggling to carry on without her love.
Becky Sanders thinks her life is over when her partner Ruth dies. What will it take for her to realize her life is not over and accept the changes? Incredibly, stopping a blood thirsty vampire will restore her confidence.

On Monday, Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson posted a photo to his WhoSay.com account of him and his on-screen partner, Eric Stonestreet, in their wedding best, holding hands, beneath a pink and white flower-covered canopy.
Sure looks like a wedding to us, but Ferguson was cryptic with his post, which read: “It’s not what it looks like. Or is it? Guess you’ll have to wait to find out!”

When Anne Hathaway married Adam Shulman last September, every entertainment magazine in the country wanted the pictures.
Now, according to Adam Polaski at Freedom to Marry, “Hathaway is doing her part to ensure that same-sex couples across the country can enjoy a fairytale wedding like hers; this week, she announced that she’ll be donating some of the sales from her wedding photographs to non-profits advocating for marriage for same-sex couples, including Freedom to Marry.”
While she may be splitting the proceeds between Freedom to Marry and other charities (includng the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and The Girl Effect), Polaski says the donation to Freedom to Marry is just the “latest way that Hathaway has taken a stand for the freedom to marry.

Review of "The Campaign"

Although a comedy, The Campaign is a refreshingly candid assessment of the current political climate in the United States.
Actually, the film is more than just candid. It is an unrelenting and scathing attack on the moral hypocrisy and financial corruption inherent in American political campaigns.
If The Campaign weren't a comedy it probably would never have been made. Or it would have been an independent film, produced by George Clooney, eking out a two-week run in a handful of art theatres before being condemned to overstock baskets in
video stores.
Boasting the talents of director Jay Roach (Austin Powers, Meet the Parents, Dinner for Schmucks) and lead actors Will Ferrell and Zach Galifanakis, The Campaign is a very funny film.
Yet the raw and often slapstick comedy occasionally detracts from the film's serious political message.
No one needs to be reminded that this is an election year and that big money will play a role in deciding who sits in the Oval Office come January A recent cover of Time magazine ran the header, "How to Buy the White House" and featured a "For Sale" sign under which was written, "Asking: $2.5 billion."
The Time issue could have been The Campaign's startling point. The film delves deeply into the issue of election financing. Its conclusions are stark but also - as the Time story makes clear - not too far from the truth. Campaigns are won or lost long before people go to the polls.
North Carolina congressman Cam Brady (Will Farrell) is brash, boorish, amoral and none too bright. His campaign platform is "America, Jesus, Freedom." In one scene he says, "Shit, I don't know what it means, but people sure love it when I say it."
Eager to be seen as an Everyman, Brady appears in campaign commercials with workers of every snipe, claiming that each group is the "backbone of America." With a group of teachers, Brady strays from his script: "Schools is this nation's backbone," has says, partly channeling Dan Quale and partly Ferrell’s own Saturday Night Live George Bush persona.
After a potentially campaign-ending gaffe involving a tragically misplaced (and very sexual) phone message, Brady and his campaign manager, Mitch Wilson (Jason Sudeikis), have to do a little damage control. Not a big problem. Brady has run unopposed in his congressional district for years.
That situation changes when two powerful businessmen, Glenn and Wade Motch (John Lithgow and Dan Aykroyd), stir things up by entering a candidate of their own to run against Brady.
Tourism director for the city of Hammond, Marty Huggins, has a well-connected father (Brian Cox) who is a close friend of the influential Motches. But while he is a well-meaning family man, the younger Huggins is a disaster as a potential politician. He is overweight, uncoordinated, and whiny. "He looks like Richard Simmons crapped out a hobbit," says his obnoxious father. Not exactly great candidate material in the media-conscious arena of American politics.
But as the Motch Brothers (clearly a satirical take on the powerful and influential – as well as right-wing - Koch Brothers) say, "We are job creators; we are also candidate creators." In politics, money talks. Everything else walks some distance behind.
At stake is North Carolina land that the Molch brothers want to develop. In order to do so, they need a congressman in their pocket who will support their plans to build factories that not only pollute the environment but also pay workers only 50cents an hour. Of course, no American would work for that amount. So the brothers intend to move their business interests in China to the United States, importing low-paid Chinese workers as part of the deal. "It will save a fortune in shipping," says one of the brothers. “We call it ‘in-sourcing.’ When we tested the idea with focus groups it went through the roof."
Even though the Brady campaign initially views Huggins as a political lightweight, Brady comes out fighting dirty. Huggins is clearly no match for the seasoned campaigner. So the Motch brothers enlist Tim Wattley (a creepy Dylan McDermott) as Huggins’ campaign manager. Imagine Karl Rove, Oliver North and G. Gordon Liddy remade as a Hollywood hunk and you have Wattley. He whips Huggins into shape,
making him leaner, meaner and tougher.
The campaign gets even dirtier. Jockeying for position in a crowd to kiss a baby, Brady takes a swing at Huggins with disastrous results (resulting in a dip for Brady in the polls); Brady retaliates by painting the heavily mustachioed Huggins as a potential Al Oaeda or Taliban operative (a similar dip for Huggins). And so on. The two candidates yo-yo in the polls until the day of the election when they are neck and neck.
The Campaign cleverly avoids partisan politics. While Cam Brady is portrayed as a John Edwards-style Democrat (he appears in a photo with a smiling Bill Clinton), the film manages to be critical of both parties without pointing a finger at either one. There are no images of elephants or donkeys anywhere to be seen and neither party is identified by name. Add a comment

10 Celebrities Avoiding the Altar Until Same-Sex Marriage is Legal

, who just happen to have a new movie coming out, told CNN this week that they wouldn’t get married until their gay costars friends could.
That’s very sweet, dears, but don’t wait on our account. We’re trying to get more people married, not less.
The stars of Hit and Run have been engaged for two years, but Shepard says tying the not when so many can’t is in bad taste. “We’re not going to have a party when half of our friends… can’t do that thing we’re doing. We’re not going to ask them to come celebrate a right they don’t have. That’s just tacky! Forget like anything else, it’s like really tacky for us.”
That’s probably the most genuine explanation we’ve heard from straight folks waiting to make it official—and we’re blown away it came from the guy from Punk’d—but are these two showing true solidarity or jumping on the latest celebrity PR trend? We decided to take a look at other star couples who promised to forgo marriage until gays could tie the knot, and see how they’re doing with that vow.
Note: there were a few names we were surprised didn’t make the list, actually, like Kathy Griffin (who won’t have sex until we can marry), Jennifer Aniston (who apparently won’t have a child till gays can adopt either), Cher (who keeps remarrying until we have full equality) and Queen Latifah (not to infer anything about her sexuality.)

Charlize Theron
Theron, who’s played everything from a lesbian serial killer in Monster to the glam queen in Snow White and the Hutnsman poo-pooed marrying her longtime beau, actor Stuart Townsend. “Right now the institution of marriage feels very one-sided, and I want to live in a country where we all have equal rights,” she said. “I have so many friends who are gays and lesbians who would so badly want to get married, that I wouldn’t be able to sleep with myself.”
Status: Theron and Townsend broke up in 2010, but the stunning blond didn’t let singlehood keep her from having a family: She adopted son Jackson earlier this year.
Natalie Portman
The former child star once told reporters she wasn’t into marriage: “Why are they making rules that say my lover can stay in the United States if they’re foreign or share my health care benefits because I’m straight — but if you’re gay, you can’t have that?”
Status: Portman married her babydaddy Benjamin Millieped in March 2012.
Jason Mraz
The soulful crooner seems like one of those straight guys who is sooo comfortable with his sexuality he’d cuddle with you as you watch Beaches together for the fourth time. In the winter of 2010, he asked girlfriend Tristan Prettyman to marry him but said they were holding off on sending invitations: “The wedding would be nice for our family, our friends, our community—our moms especially— [but] we can’t get married until marriage is legal and equal.”
Status: Mraz and Prettyman broke up in 2011. Hope we didn’t have anything to do with it!
Howard Stern
After divorcing his long-suffering first wife, Alison, shock jock Howard Stern swore off commitment. But when leggy blond Beth Ostrosky walked into his life, he opened his heart. Still, in 2007 the King of All media swore he wouldn’t wed “unless gays can get married.”
Status: Well, she goes by Beth Stern, now, so you do the math.
Ricky Martin
An international superstar, Martin could jet off to any number of countries where marriage equality was legal to marry his honey, economist Carlos González Abella. But the Latino singer said he was waiting until gay marriage is legal in Puerto Rico: “Unfortunately, we don’t have the option of marriage in our country. We could go to Britain or Spain or Argentina and do something symbolic, but that’s not what I want. I want to have the rights of anybody else in my home country. I don’t want to be a second-class citizen.”
Status: Martin and Abella got Spanish citizenship in 2011—prompting some to think they would marry there. But in January 2012, they tied the knot in New York City. At the time Martin said he was primarily concerned with securing the welfare of his twin boys, Matteo and Valentino.
Jodie Sweetin
First the Full House star gained notoriety for her drug habit, but last year she made a stand for same-sex marriage when she got engaged. “We are in no hurry as far as dates or anything like that,” she told the press. “We want to wait until there’s equality for everybody to get married.”
Status: There ain’t no ring on Stephanie Tanner’s finger.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
Brangelina have been eschewing marriage since they first hooked up in 2005: “To be in love with someone and be raising a family with someone and want to make that commitment and not be able to is ludicrous. Just ludicrous,” Pitt said.
Status:Brad and Angie got engaged! “We made this declaration some time ago that we weren’t going to do it till everyone can. But I don’t think we’ll be able to hold out. It means so much to my kids, and they ask a lot [about it]. And it means something to me, too, to make that kind of commitment.”
The Moneyball star says he still hopes marriage equality will become the law of the land before he takes his bride.
