poll-250x199For the past two years, polls have fairly consistently shown that a majority of Americans support marriage equality for same-sex couples, but not every specific poll had quite as strong a result.

One prominent survey, conducted regularly by the New York Times and CBS, had shown a plurality of support (46-44) as of July, but this month, it too now shows a majority of support for the first time.

When asked if it should be legal for same-sex couples to marry, 51 percent said it should be legal, and only 41 percent said it should be illegal.
